Our Story
Denis Sharpe founded Ess Eye Transport and Logistics, 35 years ago. Our new-generation owners are his daughter Aly O’Brien and son-in-law, Damien O’Brien.
Denis has worked in the logistics industry for most of his life. Prior to this though, he qualified as a mechanic and helped his parents build the family home. His entry into transport came in his 20’s when he got his heavy rigid license and took up a contract to carry trailers interstate. The hours were long but the money was excellent and it allowed him and his wife, Sue to buy their first house and start thinking about a family. In 1975 they had their daughter Amie, and Aly came along three years later.
These were hard times, Sue was at home with the children for days and sometimes weeks on end while Denis was driving interstate. It was a major accident that nearly killed him that drove his decision to find work closer to home.
Denis joined Airport Parcel Express (APE) and, now at school, Amie and Aly would go to work with their dad on school holidays. They particularly loved the days that they delivered to the Red Tulip Chocolate Factory and the warehouse manager would give them huge boxes of chocolates!
Going to work with Denis was the girls’ chance to spend hours on end with their dad. He worked long hours, seven days a week, so time with him was precious. His girls were his life and he enjoyed every minute of being together as a family. Raised to value family, loyalty, honesty, and a strong work ethic his girls would often be helping their dad, he made sure they knew the name of every tool in his toolbox and how to use it. More importantly, he taught them never to let gender be a barrier in their life.
Fast forward a few years and it was time to make it on his own. This was the humble beginning of Ess Eye Transport and Logistics – starting off with nothing but a shipping container for an office and Denis driving his own private truck, his one client was a company that needed professional service along with top quality and reliable transport. As his reputation grew, so did the demand for his unrivaled services.
Over the next three decades, he would continue to work tirelessly, always prepared to go that extra mile. Something that Ess Eye now has a strong reputation for. Fast-forward to the present day and our new generation owners are his youngest daughter Aly and son-in-law, Damien O’Brien. They have a fresh pair of eyes and a fresh approach to how things can be done and what it takes to evolve the business for the next generation.
